The last time I checked, the Constitution still upholds the principle that "no one is above the law."
Some INC members were suspected of committing a crime (illegal detention), and so the country's justice system stepped in. What is illegal about that?
Raising the issue on separation of powers between the church and the state is totally out-of-sync here as this is a crime investigation. Thanks to Secretary De Lima for showing some balls! She knows that she's David versus a Goliath (INC), but her department has to investigate where crime is suspected. Alas, some quarters are quick on riding the coattails of the issue for some "pogi or ganda points."
Please allow me to quote one comment I read about the issue that explains how I personally feel towards this "miss-call" on religious freedom.
"Religious freedom does not insist on its own, is not self seeking, Does not behave rudely, does not provoke, does not parade itself, is not puffed up, and does not express threat to topple the govt."
Let us see how this family/religious saga unfolds in the coming days.
